The Beginning

Early in 2003 after being contacted by local women seeking support and requests for voluntary opportunities, the national office, Rape Crisis Scotland (RCS) identified a need for a support service to be developed in the Westen Isles.

By mid 2003 a steering group was established by a group of women with various skills and backgrounds, bringing a wealth of knowledge that would prepare the ground for the launch of the Project.

Later in 2003 the Scottish Executive announced funding over a 2 year period for the establishment of new Rape Crisis Centres - WIRCC was on its way!!!
