Aims and Objectives

    *

To provide a support service for women and girls who have been raped, sexually assaulted and/or sexually abused.

    *

To train women as support workers able to meet the needs of the women who contact us by the provision of health and legal information and emotional support.

    *

To campaign in this area to improve legal, medical and care services for women and girls who have been raped, sexually assaulted and/or sexually abused.

    *

To build up and maintain educative and informative material on subjects relating to rape, sexual assault/rape, and to make this information available to professionals, voluntary organisations and individuals, and to keep ourselves informed of media, research and developments in this area.

    *

To promote increased awareness of the surrounding sexual violence and the situation of women and girls who have been raped or sexually assaulted/abused, to the general public and to others in specialised fields who work with, or provide services, for women and girls eg. health, education and social work services.

    *

To develop training and educational opportunities on the issues surrounding rape and sexual assault/abuse aimed at teachers, social workers, etc.

    *

To establish a group of co-ordinated contacts to further the aims of Western Isles Rape Crisis and to obtain help and support where needed through close contact with local government, health services and voluntary organisations.

    *

To maintain and develop monitoring of the work carried out at the Western Isles Rape Crisis Centre.

    *

To raise such monies through grant applications and fund-raising activities to enable the above aims.
